President’s Monthly Letter

STARTING ANOTHER FUN and LEARNING YEAR

Our first monthly in-person meeting for 2021-2022 begins at 6 PM on September 27, 2021. Lisa Langell will be our featured speaker for the evening. Lisa is a renowned photographer, workshop leader, and internationally published artist.

Our new home is the Sedona Creative Life Center at 333 Schnebly Hill Rd, Sedona, AZ 86336, for at least the next three months. This location is comfortable and located centrally. Of significant importance is the Center is very safe regarding Covid-19 concerns, including the ability to practice safe distancing. For additional safety, we request all attendees be vaccinated, and masks must be worn. For extra protection at this meeting, we will not be serving refreshments.

Would you please let other members and friends, who may wish to be guests, know that we are back in business with in-person meetings? We built our club around two key objectives: fun and learning. We continue to believe that meeting together with other members and guests will strongly support these objectives. The experience of so many of us long-term members includes developing solid and lasting friendships. Learning comes from our monthly meetings, trips, mentoring sessions, and, recently added, Significant Interest Groups. Casual conversations before the start of meetings and during intermissions add to both the fun and learning goals. Reminder: doors open at 5:30 PM, so come and socialize and meet some new folks.

The Sedona Camera Club must respond to the impact of Covid-19 and its variants. Changing the meeting venue for the remainder of 2021 and our safety requirements for the September meeting represent part of what has been necessary. We hope that the Club membership and our local population will “follow the science” to obtain recommended vaccinations, practice safe distancing and wear masks indoors. To be successful, our Club requires that we return to in-person meetings attended by most of our members. Our Board members are open to any suggestions you have to achieve this goal. Would you please send your ideas to me or any other member of the Board? Contact information is available on the Member Contact List.

Practice makes for better photography. So, take more pictures. Seek ideas from the work of others. And submit images for peer review to obtain support and suggestions. Digital photography and processing images are fun and excellent ways to keep your mind sharp. Submissions of photos for both digital and print are now open for our October 25 member meeting.

Be happy,

Roger

PHOTOGRAPHY with NEW RULES, OPTIONS, FLEXIBILITY

As photographers, we have classically learned one master set of “rules” that govern how we photograph wildlife and nature. Many don’t realize that there are more than one set of rules for nature photography depending on where it will “live”! We’re missing out on a whole world of photography by not considering these alternative rules.

Award-winning nature photographer Lisa Langel will present alternatives for thinking, capturing the shot, composing, processing, and “homing” our work.
Lisa is a full-time, award-winning photographer.  She currently sits on the Board of Directors for the North American Nature Photography Association.
Since childhood, Lisa’s most significant calling was photography–when bird watching ignited her lifelong love of nature and the camera. Lisa loves combining her diverse background and skills into photographic art and instruction. Creating innovative learning experiences and pushing photographic boundaries is a delight. She enjoys enriching, stimulating, and expanding fellow photographers’ minds emotionally, creatively, and intellectually.

Come to the September 27 meeting and be enriched and stimulated.
