Welcome to a new year with the Sedona Camera Club. Please join me in acknowledging all the new and returning board members who do so much to make our club successful. We look forward to working with you all to achieve our educational mission. Many of us are facing learning curves, as we adjust to our new roles and some new procedures. But with your help, we will have a great year together.

NEXT CLUB MEETING:

Our first club meeting for the 2019-20 Club year will be Monday, August 26, 2019 at 6:00 pm at the Christ Lutheran Church, 25 Chapel Road, Sedona. 86336. Doors will open at 5:30 pm.

Our August meeting will not follow our usual program. Rather Program Chair Maria Carolina Rozas plans for us to have plenty of time to reconnect with old friends and get acquainted with newer members. In addition, we will review many of the great photos from last year, discuss some club activities with our board members, and learn about our new procedures for photo critiques.

Images from our first Digital and Print Critiques will be presented by Digital Chair Bill Belvin at the September meeting, and detailed scores and comments will be available online. You can submit images for the September Critiques from August 1 through August 28 by going to the Submit Critique Images page under the Members tab on our website. If you are entering Print Images, in addition to entering the digital files of those prints online, you must bring your prints to the August club meeting, or make other arrangements with our Print Chair, Pam Holmes(printchair@sedonacameraclub.org).

We strongly encourage everyone to read the Photo Critique Handbook before submitting images for the critiques. It has detailed information about every aspect of our critique process. You can find a link to the Photo Critique Handbook on the homepage of our website.

CLUB EVENTS, WORKSHOPS, PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES AND TRIPS

The Sedona Camera Club is sponsoring the 1st Annual Sedona Photo Symposium, August 22-25th, 2019 at the Creative Life Center in Sedona. The Keynote Speaker will be Rick Sammon, a Canon Explorer of Light. Other symposium presenters will be Erin Babnik, Kurt Budliger, Suzanne Mathia, Joe Brady, David Cobb, Cole Thompson, Scott Stulberg and Adam Schallau. In addition to the presentations, there will be pre- and post- Symposium workshops as well as daily workshops and breakout sessions on various topics. If you would like to learn more about the symposium and to register, you can go to the Symposium website, www.SedonaPhotoSym.com to find out more. Club members are eligible for a discount (SCC50OFF), and attending this symposium is one of the best things you can do if you want to improve your photography!

The Sedona Camera Club is planning a fall photo trip to several locations in Southeastern Utah. Bill Belvin will be leading the trip. October 20-23, we will stay in Moab, and Bill will be leading the group to many arches and rock formations in and around Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. On the October 23, we will drive to Monticello for one night, where they will photograph several ruins. October 24-27, we will be staying in Blanding, and we will be photographing a number of ruins and rock formations in the area. This trip is currently full, but if you want to be waitlisted you can reach out to Bill Belvin at wbelvin1@gmail.com.

If you are looking for photo opportunities closer to home, Trips Chair Tom Wardrup (trips.sedonacameraclub@gmail.com) is organizing some local trips and seeking volunteers to help him.

The Sedona Library will exhibit member photos for the entire month of October. Information about the exhibition was sent out in a separate email from Exhibits Chair Mary Ratner

The Sedona Camera Club has a Facebook Page. We encourage everyone to join. It’s a great way to share your images, discuss image processing, and see images from other members.

We are still looking for volunteers to serve as members on various committees. The Sedona Camera Club is only successful due to the efforts of our member volunteers. It’s also a great way to meet other members in the club.  If you are interested in helping, please contact me at: president.sedonacameraclub@gmail.com.Your help is greatly needed and appreciated.
