From the Club President…

Finally, it feels like fall is arriving. Leaves are turning color quickly. The temperatures have taken a welcome dive. And there is even some rain in the forecast. I hope it does not disappoint.

I’ve been thinking about getting out to shoot some fall colors in Oak Creek Canyon. But the thought of navigating the tourist crowds have prevented me from making the drive. It is ironic that while our social activity has been constrained by the pandemic, I still prefer to go where no one else goes.

The big news in the club is that Bob Kenney has figured out how to connect our membership database to GoToWebinar. Now everyone is automatically registered for our webinars. We certainly appreciate his work to minimize the efforts required to access our webinars. In addition, he has made the recordings of our webinars available on our members-only website. If you open the members-only site, you will see a new tab labeled Video that will contain all of the webinars to date.

That’s all for now. Be sure to check out the info below because there are some significant updates on club activities. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Best wishes for good health and great photos,
Brad

Next Club Meeting

At our next club meeting, Professional photographer Shane McDermott will present to the Sedona Camera Club starting at 6 p.m. on Monday, October 26th.  As usual, Shane’s presentation will be via a Sedona Camera Club webinar. However this time, you do not have to register. Our webmaster, Bob Kenney, has connected GoToWebinar to your members-only website so that everyone will be automatically registered. You should have received a confirmation of your registration. If not, please reply to this email. We will get you registered and figure out what went wrong.

Shane asks, “do you grapple with the greatness within you wanting to emerge through your photography?” He will guide participants deep into the creative process of nature photography.   He will share simple yet powerful practices that help photographers recognize and access their unique creative brilliance.  His presentation will highlight the importance and power of both the technical and creative aspects of photography.

Shane combines meditative mindfulness and transformative flow state practices to help photographers easily access new ways of seeing, sensing, and feeling into the world they love to photograph.   Imagine – no more trying or striving with your artistic visions, but rather immediate access to the creative flow as the one core quality to your unique creative voice and vision.

Decades of yoga and meditation have helped Shane develop his teaching approach, called VisionQuest Photography.  VisionQuest helps photographers awaken their unique creative expression while pioneering visionary ways of conserving and communing with the natural world.   It’s a synthesis of photography, integral ecology, nature mysticism, and conscious creativity.  The impetus for this teaching stemmed from the questions: “What role do nature photographers have in reversing the climate change crisis?” and “Is it possible a new generation of more conscious, connected, and creative nature photographers could show humanity a different way of being in relationship to the natural world?” Find out more at https://www.visionquestcreativity.com/

Dues for 2020-21

There is a link to renew your membership on the homepage of our website. The due date for dues was September 1. Any member who has not renewed their membership will lose access to the SCC members-only website, and, in November, nonpaying members will lose access to our GoToWebinar and other club meetings. We hope that you value the work that the club does for you. When the COVID-19 situation permits, the club will return to face-to-face meetings. But in the meantime, we have a great set of speakers including Shane McDermott, JR Schnelzer, Sean Bagshaw, Adam Schallau, and Dawn Kish. Please take a moment to renew your membership as soon as possible.

Scott Stulberg Photography Workshop

Here is a great opportunity for club members to get a 20% discount on his upcoming workshop. Once a week for 3 weeks, starting November 7th, 2020, Scott will go through planning an image to capturing what was in his mind’s eye and then to some of the Photoshop work that finished off his creation. There is a tremendous amount of work and thought going on in his favorite and bestselling images. The vast array of tools in Photoshop let his imagination come to life, and he will go in-depth showing many of the methods he uses to finish off his vision. Each 3-hour class will include a live discussion between the students and questions and answers throughout.

He will cover many aspects of his photography including travel, architecture, landscapes, shooting faces, street photography, and also the night sky including star trails and the Milky Way. Along with discussing tons of his favorite gear and many of his techniques while photographing, he will go over much of his thought process before, during, and after the shot.

Here is a link to read about the Behind the Shot workshop. Email Scotty if you are interested in getting a 20% discount on this opportunity.

Sedona Photography Symposium

As you should already know, our Sedona Photography Symposium has been postponed until 2021. This decision was not made lightly, as the symposium is one of our most significant educational activities. Unfortunately, the interactions that make the symposium so successful are the very activities that are prohibited under the COVID-19 pandemic. As an attendee last year, I am certainly looking forward to next year. If you are at all interested in the symposium, please consider signing up as soon as possible. In the coming months, we may have to increase the prices to recover our costs of extending the symposium date. Signing up now could save you some money. Please see the Sedona Photography Symposium website (https://sedonaphotosym.org) to register or for more information.
